Split is a city with Renaissance charm, which you are bound to fall in love with at first sight. This seventeencentury-old city has been included in the world architectural history books because of its Roman palace built by the
Emperor Diocletian. Today it is a monument under protection. Split is the cultural and economic centre of Dalmatia and its citizens are extremely proud of its history. - Split is the hometown to many spiteful athletes; Goran Ivanišević, the famous tennis player who won Wimbledon in the summer of 2001, after being given wild card. At the time, his world ranking was 125.
- Our famous «Flying Croat» Blanka Vlašić also comes from Split – she jumped 205cm high in Osaka in 2007 and is currently chasing the new world record in the high jump discipline.
