Rome is the capital city of Italy with ever intriguing history; from its foundation which the tradition attributes to the twins Romulus and Remus on 21 April 753 BC to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 A.D. This is probably why Rome is the third-most-visited tourist destination in the European Union. Today, Rome is bursting with noise, traffic jams, café terraces swarming with people, and constantly crowded streets at every hour of day and night...One visit and you will be hooked, as this is the place where you feel cool just strolling along the streets, feeling detached from the real world. Still, it would be a real shame not to make an effort and visit some of the Rome's most recognizable landmarks such as: the Coliseum and Palatine Hill, the most famous of the seven hills of Rome; the Roman Forum and Nero’s Circus Maximus, where chariot races were held; or take a walk along the Via Sacra, the main path through the Roman Forum, which was used for triumphal procession; the temple with the altar where Julius Caesar was cremated and so many more. The historic center of Rome is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. And of course, make sure you see the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's famous frescoes; or make an underground tour of Rome with the Catacombs of the early Christians and crypts filled with thousands of bones.
