Barcelona, the historical capital of Catalonia and second leading city in both size and importance after Madrid is located in the south of Spain. Indeed, there are many indicators of its southern spirit: long lunch breaks, streets swarming with people in the evening, warm and dry summer nights, palms and other Mediterranean plants. Yet, Barcelona is also the city of business and politics, which are harmoniously blended into the city’s architecture, gastronomy, culture and arts. The city is renowned for its buildings created by the famous modernist architect Antonio Gaudi.
Take a walk along the legendary road Las Ramblas to the Font Magica, a fountain which puts on a fabulous sound and light show, or climb to the top of the Montjuïc hill to roam around Castell de Montjuïc from the 17th century. Fans of the art will visit the cathedral St. Eulalius, the church Sagrada Familia, and the Joan Miro Foundation museum and the Picasso Museum. Those interested in sports may want to visit a Museo de FC Barcelona (Stadion Camp Nou) and if lucky, they can watch a popular El Barcu team play!
